Graded stakes winner Run For Vow continues to improve. During a light breeze on the Ritto Training Center woodchip track, the filly clocked an impressive 4F in 50.5 seconds, with a final furlong in 11.1 seconds, easily finishing 1.5 lengths ahead of a stablemate. The sharp time, despite the easy pace, reflects the filly's current excellent condition. Trainer Yuichi Fukunaga shared insights in an interview.
Interviewer - Your thoughts on the final track work?
Trainer Fukunaga - "It was a simple four-furlong breeze, just to check her movement, but she ended up running faster than expected. It seems her condition is improving. She's looking ready to race in top form."
Interviewer - Looking back on her last race?
Trainer Fukunaga - "In her first two starts, she didn't break well and couldn't find her rhythm. But in her third start, she got a great jump, and we finally saw her show what she's capable of. She handled the race very well, and her late acceleration was sharp. That said, she started to lose focus towards the end, so I feel a mile is likely her limit. Her manageability has helped her handle the distance."
Interviewer - She seems to improve with every race.
Trainer Fukunaga - "She's not the type of horse who wins with ease, which is a good thing. She's adaptable to various conditions. This time, it's an 18-horse full field. Her experience in a big field two starts ago should prove valuable."
Interviewer - You only opened your stable in March this year.
Trainer Fukunaga - "Taking over horses from previous trainers came with its challenges, as I had to respect their work while making adjustments. With the two-year-olds, I've had the opportunity to start fresh and shape them in line with my stable's philosophy. It's been a learning process, but I never expected to secure a graded stakes victory so soon."
Interviewer - What are her strengths?
Trainer Fukunaga - "Winning against colts isn't easy. She does have a temperamental side and can get excited in the gate, but her overall manageability is excellent. On top of that, she's already won a graded stakes race on the outer track at Kyoto Racecourse, which is a significant advantage. The two-year-old G1 races often come with uncertainties due to the horses' inexperience. Many can't showcase their full potential, but having already succeeded on the same course gives her an edge."
Interviewer - Your past wins as a jockey?
Trainer Fukunaga - "Both the CBC Sho (Drop Of Light) and the Daily Hai Nisai Stakes were titles I had the privilege to win as a jockey, so it's exciting to compete for them now as a trainer."
