Takeshi Yokoyama guided Sol Oriens perfectly to win the first leg of the colt Classics on Sunday. Sol Oriens was second from last turning from home, but when Yokoyama led him to the outside, he showed off his incredible speed in the last furlong to overtake his rivals.

It was a third win from three starts for Sol Oriens, becoming the first horse to win the G1 Satsuki Sho with only three career starts.

Yokoyama reflected, "I had many opportunities to win a G1 with amazing horses but couldn't. This victory is all on Sol Oriens but I am glad I could finally win one. I knew he had the potential to win big races so if I could make him run in his rhythm he was going to finish in the top three. He is still young and he struggles a bit in corners but the way we won this race, that was really satisfying."

The pair will head to the G1 Japanese Derby as the 2000 Guineas winner. Yokoyama, on their challenge for the Derby, added: "I was able to showcase the ability of Sol Oriens. I will try my best to lead Sol Oriens safely back to the winner's circle on Derby day."
