The Retired Horse Association, a certified NPO, announced on the 26th that Meisho Samson, the Classic double winner of the 2006 Satsuki Sho and Japanese Derby as well as the 2007 Tenno Sho (Spring and Autumn), passed away that morning at the age of 21 due to heart failure.

Sired by Opera House out of My Vivien (by Dancing Brave), Meisho Samson began his career in July 2005 at Kokura Racecourse. After breaking his maiden in his third start, he followed up with a victory in the Nojigiku Stakes. In 2006, he secured his first graded stakes win in the Spring Stakes and claimed the Satsuki Sho and Japanese Derby, completing the prestigious Classic double. In 2007, he added to his accolades by winning both the Spring and Autumn Tenno Sho, cementing his reputation as a leading horse in the middle- and long-distance divisions.

Meisho Samson retired from racing after competing in the 2008 Arima Kinen and began his stallion career at Shadai Stallion Station the following year. Among his notable progeny was Denko Ange, a winner of three graded stakes races. After retiring from stud duties in 2021, he was taken in by the Retired Horse Association and cared for at Hidaka Horse Friends.

Meisho Samson concluded his racing career with a record of 9 wins from 27 starts, including six graded stakes victories. His achievements on the track and as a sire leave a lasting legacy in Japanese horse racing.
