The confirmed Japanese runners for the G1 Kentucky Derby, Derma Sotogake and Continuar, were seen in their preparations at Churchill Downs on May 2nd. Derma Sotogake had a half-mile exercise on the dirt course and recorded a time of 49.6 sec for the workout. Assistant trainer Takigawa commented, "I was looking out for his movement and breathing today, and he improved in both sections. I think he's progressing well in his training."

Meanwhile, Continuar cantered once round the dirt course. Trainer Yahagi commented, "Traveling from Dubai was so tough for him. Honestly, I would like one or two more weeks to prepare because he took too much time to recover."
