Pre-race favourite Satono Glanz won the G2 Kyoto Shimbun Hai with Yuga Kawada on board on Saturday. The race progressed at a slow pace, with the first five furlongs taking 63.8s. The pair stayed in mid-field and when Kawada asked his mount to go forward as they turned for home he showed off his speed and agility. Satono Glanz caught up to the pacemaker Danon Tornado inside the last 100m and ultimately won by a neck. Libyan Glass came in third and the winning time was 2:14.1.

Jockey Kawada reflected, "He gave everything he had. Pace was slow but he was calm and travelling in a good rhythm. Other horses were also travelling well so I am glad that we were able to finish first. With this win, Satono Glanz is now qualified to run in the Japanese Derby with the amount of prize money he has earned. I am happy for him."
