Kimiwa Queen found victory under Takeshi Yokoyama in Sunday's G3 Hakodate Sprint Stakes, and secured her first Graded stakes success in the process. The winning time was 1:08.2. Jubilee Head finished second and the favourite of the race, Toshin Macau, came home in third.
Kimiwa Queen didn't begin smoothly, despite the urgings of Yokoyama, and the pair found themselves positioned at the rear of the group. Yokoyama guided her to the outside rounding the home turn, and she accelerated quickly in the final furlong to overtake her rivals.
It was Takeshi Yokoyama's third straight year as the Hakodate meetings leading jockey and a first ride in this race. He reflected, "I have been to Hakodate and Hokkaido countless times and I could say this is my second home. I am so happy to win a Graded stakes title here. All thanks to Kimiwa Queen," he added with a huge smile.
