Australian jockey Damian Lane will not be granted his next one-year short-term license due to exceeding the prescribed penalty points.
According to the Japan Racing Association (JRA), the penalties were incurred for deviating from the racing line and the improper use of the whip in the final straight (the specific penalty points for whip usage are not disclosed). As a result, Lane exceeded the prescribed 30 points. The penalty period will start from the day following the expiration date of his current license (June 13th) and will last from June 14th until June 13th, 2024.
Furthermore, if Lane applies for a short-term license after June 14th, 2024, he will receive a shortened period of two months instead of the usual three months, as he has exceeded the JRA's specified 15-point threshold for penalty points.
