In the 8th race at Hakodate Racecourse on the 18th, a race for 3-year-olds and up for one-time winners on turf over 1200m. The 8th favorite, five-year-old colt Plus Ultra ridden by jockey Junji Shimada, made a late charge to win by a nose over the 15th favorite, High Life, in a bunch finish. The winning time was 1:10.2.
Finishing third, by a neck behind, was the 12th favorite, Film Score. It's worth noting that the 3rd favorite, Narita Rose finished 8th, while the most favorite, Ashaka Taka, finished 16th, and the second favorite, Kvasir, finished in seventh place.
The betting combination payouts were enormous as a result of largely unfancied horses filling the first three positions. Runner-up, High Life returned at odds of 265.1. The trio paid JPY 964,370, and the trifecta paid JPY 6,196,220. Interestingly, if the first and second positions had been reversed, the trio would have still paid a huge return to punters, JPY 5,576,590.
