This weekend's racing will consist of one G3 and two G2s. In this article, we will focus on the main contenders in the G2 Mainichi Okan which will be run on Sunday at Tokyo Racecourse.
Songline
Three-time G1 winner Songline is back after winning two consecutive G1s: the Victoria Mile and the Yasuda Kinen. The pace in the G2 Mainichi Okan tends to be quick as it is run on the first week of the fall Tokyo meeting. Looking at her race form, she is more likely to run better in mile races with speed than in long-distance races. This race will be run over 1800m but a number of milers have won this race, perhaps because of its quick pace. Both the distance and the pace of the race should not be a problem for her.
Schnell Meister
2021 Mainichi Okan winner Schnell Meister will be back to recover his trophy. We already know his record over a mile as he won the G1 NHK Mile Cup in 2021 and placed twice in the G1 Yasuda Kinen. He sits at the top of the milers in the JRA and he is ready to show off his experience over this distance yet again.
Elton Barows
Elton Barows does not have as much experience as the other two runners but the three-year-old is ready to take on older and more experienced runners. He will also be well handicapped, given a weight advantage because of his age.
