Lex Stud announced on the 10th that the 2008 G1 Japan Cup winner Screen Hero has retired from stud duties.

Screen Hero is by Grass Wonder out of Running Heroine, by Sunday Silence, and has four-time graded stakes winner Dyna Actress as a grandmother. There are multiple black-type winners from this family, such as the 1994 G2 Nikkei Sho winner Stage Champ and the 1994 G3 Sapporo Sansai Stakes winner Prime Stage.

Screen Hero made a number of heroic challenges against historic Japanese horses. The prime example is the 2008 G1 Japan Cup when he finished ahead of the great Deep Sky and Vodka.

He was scanned to have a bowed tendon after the Japan Cup in 2009 and retired from racing with a career record of five wins from 23 starts with two graded stakes titles.

During his career as a sire, he was responsible for three G1 winners including Maurice, Gold Actor, and Win Marilyn. He will spend the rest of his life peacefully at Shadai Farm in Hokkaido.
