The G1 Hong Kong Sprint has been know as one of the hardest race to win for Japanese challengers. Since Daitaku Yamato and Mejiro Darling challenged this race in 2001, 12 runners finished below seventh until Curren Chan became the first Japanese horse to be placed in 2011. Lord Kanaloa later went on to win two consecutive Hong Kong Sprint, and it was later that he sired Danon Smash to win the same race in 2020.

Even after those achievements, the Hong Kong Sprint still remains one of the hardest races to win for Japanese runners. In the last 24 years, 18 horses from Hong Kong have won this race. Two Japanese runners will challenge Hong Kong sprinters this year.

Jasper Krone is the winner of this year's Summer Sprint Series. He finished fourth in the G1 Sprinters Stakes. If he could secure a position up front, he could well be the winner in this race.

Mad Cool does not have a graded stakes titles yet but his form suggests he has a good chance in this race. He was placed second in the G1 Sprinters Stakes ahead of Jasper Krone. He clocked 11.6s for the final furlong during his last fast work in Japan and seems to be in 100% condition.
