Jockey Kanichiro Fujii retires from racing following accident

The Japan Racing Association announced on the 14th that JRA jockey Kanichiro Fujii will retire from race riding as a result of an injury sustained in 2022.
He was well-known as a jockey who started his career in Australia. He obtained a licence in NSW in Australia in 2006 and had been riding internationally since then, and not without success. He won the Korea Cup with Chrysolite in 2016, subsequently became a JRA jockey in 2019 and won a first domestic graded stakes in the G3 Flower Cup with Ablaze. He sustained a career-ending injury in 2022 at Fukushima Racecourse and will officially retire on the 29th of February after a long rehabilitation.
