Lemon Pop and Ryusei Sakai ready for their Saudi Cup bid

Friday, 23 February, 2024 05:38

Last year's JRA Best Dirt Horse Award winner Lemon Pop conducted a final fast trackwork ahead of the G1 Saudi Cup at King Abdulaziz Racecourse in Saudi Arabia.

Lemon Pop could not shine in last year's G1 Dubai Golden Shaheen and this is his second try in the Middle East for a G1 title. Rider Hogari reflected on the work, "He gave a good response and was well balanced. He is in good condition and he did not disappoint us. We think he runs better with only one turn rather than running a whole lap with multiple bends." Booked jockey Ryusei Sakai added: "He looked beautiful and is in great condition."

Ryusei Sakai has also been selected for the international jockeys' meeting on the 23rd. He expressed his excitement for this event saying: "I used to be in the grandstand watching this meeting but I can finally participate in this event. I am excited for this trip."
