Tosen Penelope, a 2-year-old filly and first-crop foal of 2019 U.S. Champion 3-Year-Old Colt Maximum Security, will make her debut in Saturday's Tokyo Racecourse Race 5, a 1600m turf race for 2-year-old newcomers.

Bred in the U.S., Tosen Penelope is by Maximum Security out of Hassenah (by Red Runner). Her sire achieved four G1 victories, though he famously crossed the line first in the 2019 Kentucky Derby only to be disqualified for interference at the final turn, placing him 17th. Maximum Security also crossed the finish line first in the 2020 Saudi Cup. However, he was later disqualified in August this year after it was revealed that his trainer had administered banned substances. On the dam side, Hassenah notched G2 and G3 wins in Brazil, highlighting her own pedigree strength.

Since arriving in Japan, Tosen Penelope has been steadily prepared on both the slope course and woodchip track, posting solid, if unspectacular, work times. As the first runner for her sire in Japan, she aims to make a winning impression, with a debut that could pleasantly surprise fans.
