Final race at Niigata cancelled due to potential lightening strikes

On August 25th, the Japan Racing Association (JRA) announced the cancellation of Race 12 on Day 6 of the 3rd meeting at Niigata due to the potential danger of lightning strikes. As a result, no substitute and the race will not be rescheduled.

The most recent race cancellation occurred on October 13th, 2019, at Tokyo Racecourse due to a typhoon. The last instance of an event being partially cancelled was on March 29th, 2020, at Nakayama Racecourse, where from race 3 onwards were cancelled due to snow. The last time a race day was partially cancelled without a continuation was on May 4, 2019, at Tokyo Racecourse, after Race 10 due to a hail storm. This is the first time in JRA history that a race has been cancelled due to potential lightning strikes.
