Hokkaido September Sale tops 700 million JPY

The Hidaka Horse Breeders Association held its annual Hokkaido September Sale for yearlings on the 17th at the Hokkaido Market in Shin-Hidaka. On the day, 191 horses were listed, with 151 (74 colts and 77 fillies) sold, achieving a sales rate of 79.06%. The total sales amount reached 703.44 million JPY (excluding tax).
The highest-priced horse was Ange Libre 2023 (colt by Mr Melody), bred by Grand Farm in Shin-Hidaka. It was purchased by Yoshiko Komatsu for 25 million JPY (excluding tax).
Ange Libre 2023 is the first foal of JRA winner Ange Libre, whose close relative is Escena, the 1998 Eclipse Award Champion Older mare. The colt's sire, Mr Melody, had his first crop runner Sourire Mignon win the Kikyo Stakes at Chukyo Racecourse just days earlier, on September 14.
