Highest earning gelding, Magnaten passes away at the age of 28

The Japan Stud Book International has announced the passing of Magnaten, a gelding and ex-racehorse who was being cared for at Momose Riding Farm in Sapporo, Hokkaido. Magnaten was 28 years old.
Bred in the United States, Magnaten was sired by Danzig out of the mare Magic Night, by Le Nain Jaune. During his racing career, he was trained by Kazuo Fujisawa and raced 37 times, winning 12 races. His graded stakes victories included the 2001 and 2002 Sekiya Kinen, the 2002 Mainichi Okan, and the 2003 AJCC (American Jockey Club Cup). He had a long career, with his final race being the 2003 Japan Cup where he finished 14th. By the time of his retirement, Magnaten had earned 452,995,000 JPY, which was the highest earnings for a gelding in Japan at the time. After retirement, he spent his remaining years at Momose Riding Farm.
