The final race of the Summer 2000 Series will be the last graded race held in Niigata this summer. The star of the race will be Red Radiance, hailing from the powerful Tomomichi Stable, winner of four races in this series. The son of Deep Impact, winner of the G3 Tanabata Sho, is the top choice to win the Summer 2000 Series.

Red Radiance appears poised to excel entering the fall as he is gradually assigned tougher and tougher tasks.

In 12 starts since his debut, he has only finished outside of the podium placing on one occasion, in the debut (sixth place). "When he first came to the barn as a 3-year-old, he was very tense from training, and I was worried about both front legs. But he is a Deep Impact-bred horse, so he always had quality. His sharpness is as good as we would expect," said trainer Tomomichi. While he was quick appreciated the high quality of the horse, he also recalled that there were issues both with him physically and mentally.

Under the training menu of the trainer, he has slowly developed and matured while still having long spells between races. He entered open class races in February of this year, and after finished second in the Metropolitan Stakes, he easily broke the wall to the graded stakes on his last race, the G3 Tanabata Sho. The trainer commented "The biggest thing is that his legs are getting stronger. He has matured both mentally and physically."

After the last race, he was sent to Northern Farm Tenei (Fukushima Prefecture) for grazing, and after returning to the stable, the trainer commented, "In a good way, I have not changed at all." In the week-long training-prep session on August 22nd, he clocked a good time on the Ritto woodchip course, finishing two lengths ahead of his stablemate and clearly showcasing his ability and condition.

This will be the second time he has raced in Niigata since finishing second in the Nihonkai Stakes, four races ago. However, there are no concerns about the course as he finished half a length ahead of Durezza, who went on to win the G1 Kikuka Sho, at that time. Trainer Tomomichi added "He always shows sharpness in the final stretch, so he should be fine in Niigata. If he has a good race here, it will lead to a good fall season." With a record of four wins in the past, this is the stable's favorite race, and the late arrival of a big talent will make his presence felt.
