Regaleira aiming for a return to the winner's enclosure

Regaleira autumn debut is being billed as a race that will test her "evolution" before a big fall campaign. The winner of last year's Hopeful Stakes, opted to run in the G1 Satsuki Sho and the G1 Japanese Derby this spring against the colts. Regaleira will run in the G2 Rose Stakes, with her main target being the G1 Shuka Sho.

In the G1 Satsuki Sho, she was looking to become only the third filly in 76 years to win the race, but she couldn't get going and had to start from the back of the pack, finishing sixth. In the G1 Japanese Derby, she was slow out of the gate and fell behind but made a strong effort to catch the leaders and ran the final three furlongs in 33.2 seconds to finish fifth. Assistant Ota said, "The delay at the start was unavoidable. It is better to get out of the gate, but she finished very well."

After spending the summer on the pasture to recharge her batteries, preparation for her return to racing is going well. Her assistant trainer has been pleased with her progress, saying, "Her body is getting bigger, but her gait is still stiff, but she has improved a lot from a week ago. She is a horse with good instincts, so I think it will be different when he goes to the races. I think her body has grown and she has become more relaxed in terms of her temperament."

How strong will she be in her first all-female race? The stable has high expectations and they will want to start the fall season with a positive result.
