Siog, the first foal of the remarkable mare Deirdre, is set to make her highly anticipated debut in Monday's Race 5 for 2-year-old newcomers (1800m turf) at Tokyo Racecourse.

Siog boasts an impressive pedigree, sired by Wootton Bassett and out of the G1-winning Deirdre, with her maternal grandsire being Harbinger. Her sire, Wootton Bassett, was the victor of the 2010 French G1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere and has become a top sire in Europe, producing stars such as 2016 European Champion 3-Year-Old Almanzor and last year's British Champion Stakes winner King Of Steel. With a 2024 stud fee of 200,000 EUR (approximately 32 million JPY), Wootton Bassett is a widely recognized elite sire in European racing.

On the dam's side, Deirdre herself was a standout, claiming the 2017 G1 Shuka Sho and the 2019 G1 Nassau Stakes in Britain. Deirdre made waves on the international stage, embarking on a series of overseas campaigns from spring 2019 through autumn 2020, where she repeatedly held her own against top-class global competition, making a lasting impression on the racing world.

Siog, Deirdre's firstborn, was bred in Ireland. While she has yet to clock any standout times in her training, there is excitement to see if her regal bloodlines will translate to her performance on the turf. Legendary jockey Yutaka Take will be in the saddle. Take rode Deirdre twice during her career, in Hong Kong and the UK, where both times she finished 6th. He will be looking to make up for those results by guiding her talented daughter to victory.
