Cosmo Kuranda, runner-up in both the G1 Satsuki Sho and the St Lite Kinen, completed his final workout on the 16th at Miho Training Center's woodchip track. He finished half a length ahead of his workout partner, showing strong form as he prepared for the G1 Kikuka Sho (Japanese St. Leger). Trainer Shizuya Kato and jockey Mirco Demuro both expressed confidence in the colt's stamina, highlighting that the 3000-metre distance should not be an issue as they aim for the final jewel of the Japanese Triple Crown.

In his workout, Cosmo Kuranda clocked 6 furlongs in 83.7 seconds with splits of 37.7 and 11.7, comfortably finishing ahead of Zaxis. He ran the gallop in a relaxed manner, maintaining composure and showing plenty of energy at the finish, signalling his readiness for the big race.

Trainer Shizuya Kato

Interviewer - On the trackwork?

Trainer Kato - "He stayed relaxed throughout and posted a good time. It feels like he's conserving his energy well, and his condition is excellent."

Interviewer - Compared to the spring?

Trainer Kato -"Mirco mentioned he was a bit stiff during the Japanese Derby, so we changed our training methods in the fall. I think it's working well. His form has improved compared to the spring."

Interviewer - On the 3000-metre distance at Kyoto?

Trainer Kato - "I've always thought this distance suits him well."

Interviewer - What makes him suited to long distances?

Trainer Kato - "His physique and pedigree (his dam, Southern Speed, won the 2011 Caulfield Cup over 2400 meters) suggest that longer distances are ideal. He's very relaxed and easy to control, which helps."

Interviewer - Final thoughts?

Trainer Kato - "There are strong rivals, but I'm confident in the preparation we've done, so I'm hopeful for a good result."

Jockey Mirco Demuro

Interviewer - On his last race?

Jockey Demuro - "He was in better condition than in the Japanese Derby. He felt stiff in the Derby, likely from fatigue. Last time, it was his first race back, and he was raring to go. He ran like the favourite, and although he was just beaten in the end, he was in excellent form."

Interviewer - On his development?

Jockey Demuro - "He's been a talented runner from the start. I hope he becomes more consistent. He's still a bit restless in the gate, so I'd like him to settle down more."

Interviewer - On the 3000-meter distance?

Jockey Demuro - "He's strong. It's his first time over 3000 meters, and I haven't ridden him since his last race, so I can't say much about his current condition, but I know he has the stamina."

Interviewer - On the rain forecast?

Jockey Demuro - "If the track is like it was for the Satsuki Sho, he should handle it fine. If it's worse, it's hard to say."
