On October 26, at Moonee Valley Racecourse in Australia, the G1 Cox Plate saw a stunning performance from Via Sistina, ridden by James McDonald. The 4th favourite, a 6-year-old mare, came from the back of the pack and surged to the lead around the final turn, pulling away decisively in the stretch to claim victory. The winning time was 2:01.07 on firm ground, setting a new record.

The race favourite from Japan, Prognosis, finished in 2nd after a well-positioned trip, while 5th favourite Broadsiding took 3rd.

Via Sistina is by Fastnet Rock out of Nigh, with Galileo as her grandsire. She had already captured the Pretty Polly Stakes during her time in the UK, and after her move to Australia, she continued her success by winning the Ranvet Stakes, Winx Stakes, and Turnbull Stakes. This latest win marks her 5th G1 title. As for jockey James McDonald, he achieved his third consecutive Cox Plate victory, following wins with Anamoe in 2022 and Romantic Warrior in 2023.
