As the opening day of the new "Centennial Park Kyoto Racecourse" is quickly approaching, a test race was run on the resurfaced turf course.

An area of 105,000 square meters of track was overhauled with a new covering of soil and layer of grass. JRA Jockey Ryuji Wada who rode in a test race commented "The turf was a bit soft and not too hard. This is not the ultra-fast-paced turf we are used to. I think the ground condition will settle with the more use it gets."

The Clerk of the Kyoto Racecourse explained "I totally understand the statements of jockeys after the test race. It will solidify more when horses start to run on this surface. I did not want to make it too fast and hard so I can say that the condition of this turf is ready for races. Races will be mid-paced with its condition as I intended."
