Australia's 'master of long distance', Damian Lame will be riding in the G1 Tenno Sho (Spring) (turf 3200m), teaming up with seven-year-old colt Silver Sonic.
Jockey Lane first rode in Japan using a short-term license and has gained 120 wins out of 510 starts (correct up to last weekend). His winning percentage (WP) of 23.5% is ahead of some of Japan's stars, such as Yutaka Take and Christophe Lemaire. His excellent records extends to the big races too; His excellent records extends to the big races too; he has recorded four G1 victories, five times finishing second place. He has, intriguingly, also fared well in long-distance races. His WP in races over 2500m is 44%, which includes only four Graded races for which he had three victories and was second once, an almost perfect record at that distance category. Despite never having ridden at Kyoto Racecourse, he's a jockey of worldwide acclaim, and will likely adapt without trouble.
Lane also appears a good match with his partner, Silver Sonic. His first time teaming up with Silver Sonic was the last year's G3 Stayers Stakes. Since Lane led him to victory in that race, they scored an easy win in the G3 Red Sea Turf Handicap too. He understands the enigmatic characteristics of Orfervre's offspring, and it's certainly worth keeping an eye on the pair even though they now face substantially better opposition.
