The brilliant white Sodashi is preparing for her 2023 racecourse reappearance in the G1 Victoria Mile on May 14th in Tokyo. She was put through her paces on the uphill gallop and aims to retain the Victoria Mile crown. Verxina and Straight Girl are both dual winners of the race.
Training in splendid isolation, Sodashi began slowly and gradually increased the pace with no encouragement from the exercise rider. She recorded 800m in 52.5 sec. Her official work time was 14.5-13.6-12.5-11.9 sec. Trainer Naosuke Sugai commented, "I'm speechless. That time is rare when a rider doesn't push. I wanted her to relax, which she did well."
Already a two-time G1 winner, Sodashi was last seen on the track finishing third in the G1 Mile Championship in November. "Fans called her 'Idol' as a two and three-year-old; her mental growth has been tremendous. She has matured, and is now a true professional" Sugai mentioned with a smile.
Sodashi will be ridden by Damian Lane. Sugai commented on the new partnership, "He rode her in her previous work, and he was very happy with her condition and expressed his gratitude for being able to ride her."
