Red Mon Reve came back from his seventh-place finish in the Lord Derby Challenge Trophy back in April to land Saturday's G2 Keio Hai Spring Stakes. Partnered by Kazuo Yokoyama, the pair came from behind to gift a first graded stakes victory to trainer Masayoshi Ebina. Win Marvel finished second and Daddy's Vivid came in third.
Belenus controlled the pace in the early stage of the race while Red Mon Reve stayed at the back of the field, biding his time before challenging the leaders. As the runners entered the home stretch, Yokoyama led Red Mon Reve to the outside to challenge Win Marvel.
On trainer Masayoshi Ebina's first graded stakes success, Kazuo Yokoyama said, "I appreciate everything he taught me when he was a jockey. Now I am happy that I was able to pay him back with a Graded Stakes winner." Speaking of Red Mon Reve, Yokoyama added, "Before the start, he was a bit keen but I was able to control him to bring him to the outside in the home stretch. He was great to handle throughout the race."
"The level of runners will go up for his next race. He is an amazing horse as well so he will do good," Yokoyama concluded on Red Mon Reve's future.
