While the result of the fourth race at the NAR track of Mizusawa would appear innocuous to most. The result, in fact, signifies a greater meaning than the modest prizemoney would suggest. The race on August 28th was won by Final Wonder, breaking his maiden by half a length. The sire of Final Wonder, Grass Wonder, has achieved the remarkable feat of siring at least one NAR winner in all 19 generations since entering the stallion ranks.

Grass Wonder, boasts an American pedigree, is by Silver Hawk out of Ameriflora by Danzig. During his racing career, Grass Wonder and Special Week formed a powerhouse combination that led Japanese horse racing. Grass Wonder not only won the Asahi Hai Sansai Stakes (current Asahi Hai Futurity Stakes), but also achieved back-to-back victories in the Arima Kinen in 1998 and 1999.

After retiring from racing, Grass Wonder entered stud and produced Champion horses such as Screen Hero, the winner of the 2008 Japan Cup, and Earnestly who won the 2011 Takarazuka Kinen. He retired from stud duties in 2020. His progeny have consistently shown success on both surfaces in the JRA and in NAR, his offspring have achieved victories across all 19 of his crops. However, in JRA, his 2019 crop has yet to win a race, making the consecutive generations with victories in JRA stand at 17, for the time being.
