Christophe Lemaire
We interviewed Christophe Lemaire ahead of the race of the century, the G1 Japan Cup, which will see Equinox and Liberty Island go head-to-head.
Interviewer - "What do you think about the record-setting winning time 1:55.2 in the Tenno Sho (Autumn) from Equinox?"
Lemaire - "He jumped out of the barrier quickly and was able to race in the ideal position. He did great even in the fast-paced race."
Interviewer - "What do you think about the distance of 2400m at Tokyo?"
Lemaire - "It suits him with long and wide home stretch."
Interviewer - "The Tenno Sho (Autumn) was a fast-paced race over 2000m. Will he be able to keep up with other runners over 2400m?"
Lemaire - "I don't think he was exhausted after the Tenno Sho and 2400m will actually give Equinox a chance to calm down. The Japan Cup will also be his second race after a summer break so he will be fine."
Interviewer - "He has won five consecutive G1 including that international G1. What is your take on this?"
Lemaire - "He has matured even more and got stronger. I think he is at the pinnacle of his career now."
Interviewer - "Are you excited for the battle against the Triple Tiara winner Liberty Island?"
Lemaire - "She is unbeaten in G1 races and is having a perfect 2023 season. Her speed is eye-catching."
Interviewer - "Equinox will be carrying 58kg and Liberty Island will be carrying 54kg. How will that affect the race?"
Lemaire - "A 4kg difference is big but Equinox will handle it because he is literally the best horse in the world."
Interviewer - "You are having an amazing fall/winter season with three G1 titles already. How long do you think this streak will continue?"
Lemaire - "Until the Arima Kinen? I just need to ride and try my best in each race with confidence to win it."
