Sent-off favourite, Byzantine Dream and Rene Piechulek came through in a thriller to win the G3 Kisaragi Sho on Sunday. Water Licht finished second, a nose behind the winner, and in turn Shivers also finished a nose behind Water Licht.

Winning jockey Piechulek commented: "I thought I lost this race but I am surprised by this result. I am grateful to the owner, trainer and all the yard staff who supported me during this trip." On the race, he added, "He jumped out of the barrier quickly but it took some time to get him in a good rhythm. I knew he had a great turn of foot and speed so I trusted him in the homestretch."
