On the 13th at Kokura Racecourse in Race 1, a 2-year-old maiden race saw Seinosuke Yoshimura's ride, the favourite American Bikini, take the lead and extend it significantly in the stretch to win by seven lengths over runner-up, Otomena Shacho.

The winning time was 57.2 seconds, breaking the 2-year-old Japanese record of 57.7 seconds set by Koei Flash in a maiden race at Kokura on August 30th, 2008. Maru Mori Magic, the sixth favourite, finished a further eight lengths behind in third place.

The victorious American Bikini is a filly by American Pharoah out of Paris Bikini, by Bernardini. Despite a slow start on her debut race, she finished finish second. She lived up to her overwhelming favorite status in this second race, securing a hugely impressive win.
