Mozu Meimei achieved a complete comeback on the 1000m straight track at Niigata. The filly, send off third favourite, claimed victory in the only straight graded stakes race in the country, the G3 Ibis Summer Dash. Positioned in the middle of the pack during the race, she gradually ignited her engine after passing the 400-meter mark. She overtook Win Greatest, who had surged ahead, just before the finish line.
Since winning the G3 Aoi Stakes in May last year, Mozu Meimei had struggled, finishing in double digits for six consecutive races. However, her fortunes changed dramatically when she reunited with jockey Kyosuke Kokubun in the previous race, the G3 Kitakyushu Kinen, where she finished a close third, signalling her resurgence. In this race, despite not securing the outside rail as planned, she powered through the middle of the track to defeat her rivals.
This victory marked Mozu Meimei's third graded stakes win, adding to her G2 Tulip Sho and G3 Aoi Stakes titles. For jockey Kyosuke Kokubun, it was his fourth graded stakes win, the first since the 2022 G2 Kyoto Kinen. He expressed his joy, saying, "At the end, when the other horses slowed down, she gave an extra push. I'm grateful for the horse's strength."
