This week marks the start of racing at Tokyo, Kyoto, and Niigata Racecourses, with three graded stakes races on the cards.
The weekend's highlight is the G2 Kyoto Daishoten at Kyoto Racecourse on Sunday, October 6th. Historically, this is a key prep for the G1 Japan Cup and the G1 Tenno Sho (Autumn). The field is set to feature G1 Takarazuka Kinen winner Blow the Horn, defending champion Pradaria, and Deep Bond, who finished 3rd in the G1 Tenno Sho (Spring).
On the same day at Tokyo Racecourse, the G2 Mainichi Okan will go to post. Entries include Rousham Park, runner-up in the G1 Osaka Hai, Sixpence, who dominated the G2 Spring Stakes, and last year's winner Elton Barows.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, October 5th, Tokyo will also host the G3 Saudi Arabia Royal Cup. One of the key entries is Arlecchino, a half-brother to G1 Japanese Oaks winner Cervinia, who impressively shed his maiden tag on his last outing.
In the NAR (National Association of Racing), there are three dirt-graded races scheduled, with the main event being the JPN1 Japan Dirt Classic at Oi Racecourse on Wednesday, October 2nd. Key contenders include Forever Young, who won both the Saudi Derby, UAE Derby, and finished 3rd in the Kentucky Derby, as well as Ramjet, who scored an emphatic victory in the Tokyo Derby.
On the international front, the G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe will be held at Paris Longchamp Racecourse in France on Sunday, October 6th, at 11:20 p.m. JST. Representing Japan will be Shin Emperor, a full brother to 2020 Arc winner Sottsass. Additionally, jockey Yutaka Take will ride Al Riffa, a G1 winner in both Ireland and Germany.
