The regally bred Matenro Gold, from the immediate family of two-time 2015 Classic winner Mikki Queen, justified favouritism on his racecourse debut. He was restrained to settle in mid-division before making a decisive move towards the outside entering the home straight.

Still showing signs of greenness, he repelled a late challenge to win the 2000 metre contest by half a length. He is the first winner for the hotly anticipated progeny of Rey de Oro.

The winning time was 2:05.3 seconds. Jockey Yuga Kawada, expressed his expectations for the future, saying, "Currently he is still very immature, and we couldn't fully bring out his full potential, I'm glad he did enough to win. If he can develop mentally, I believe he can develop into an exciting prospect."
