Kitasan Black in fervent demand

Shadai Stallion Station announced the return of mares for their stallions for the 2023 season.

Kitasan Black, the sire of last year's Horse of the Year Equinox, and the sire of 2023 Satsuki Sho (Japanese 2000 Guineas) winner Sol Oriens, covered 242 mares. His stud fee for the 2023 season was 10 million yen. 2020 Japanese Triple Crown winner Contrail and the 2022 leading freshman sire Mind Your Biscuits followed with 211 mares each.

Saturnalia covered 201 mares in his third season at stud, while his sire Lord Kanaloa covered 118 mares. Kizuna and Epiphaneia covered 152 and 124 mares respectively.

Among new stallions, Efforia was the most popular, he covered 198 mares at a stud fee of three million yen. Salios received a book of 176 mares at a fee of 1.5 million yen. The American-bred Grade 1 winner, Hot Rod Charlie, covered 133 mares at a fee of 2 million yen in his first year at stud.
