Saliera is poised to start in the G3 Niigata Kinen this weekend to conclude her summer campaign.

Saliera is the daughter of Deep Impact out of Salomina by Lomitas. Saliera's brother Salios is the winner of the G1 Asahi Hai Futurity Stakes and Salacia finished second in the G1 Arima Kinen. Lastly, her older brother, Escola, broke the 1800m turf track record at Kokura Racecourse. Saliera herself is also showing potential with three wins from five starts.

To figure out the success of this family, we will look into the so-called "S line".

S line originates from Schwarzgold, a mare that made a huge impact on European and Japanese bloodlines. During her racing career, she won the German 1000 Guineas, German Oaks and German Derby. Although her career as a broodmare was cut short, she died at the age of 13, her pedigree continues to make a big impact on the Japanese racing scene.

The line originates from Santa Luciana the most well-known pedigree line from this family in Japan. Santa Luciana produced Subtle Change who later produced Manhattan Cafe and Aghsan who is a dam of the G1 winner Biwa Heidi. As a broodmare, Biwa Heidi produced G1 Japan Cup winner Buena Vista, G1 Hanshin Juvenile Fillies winner Joie de Vivre, and G2 Kyoto Kinen winner Admire Aura.

Saliera belongs to a family that dates back to Salde. This family also produced multiple black-type horses such as German Oaks winner Serienholde and G1 NHK Mile Cup winner Schnell Meister. This family is also related to six-time G1 winner Stacelita who produced a family tree that has G1 Japanese Oaks winners Soul Stirring and Stars on Earth.

'S line' is continuously expanding in the Japanese breeding scene and our eyes are now focus on Saliera this Sunday.
