Danon Decile with Norihiro Yokoyama on board won the G1 Japanese Derby at Tokyo Racecourse on Sunday. Sent-off favourite, Justin Milano finished second, two lengths behind the winner, and Shin Emperor came home in third, one-and-a-quarter lengths behind Justin Milano. The winning time was 2:24.3.

Danon Decile is a son of Epiphaneia out of Top Decile, by Congrats. Danon Decile, who was scratched from the G1 Satsuki Sho due to lameness in his right foreleg just before the start, made a remarkable comeback to claim the top spot among the 7,906 thoroughbreds born in 2021. Jockey Norihiro Yokoyama secured his third Japanese Derby victory, following wins with Logi Universe in 2009 and One and Only in 2014. At 56 years, 3 months, and 4 days old, Yokoyama set the record for being the oldest jockey to win the Derby and any JRA G1 race.
