Summary of the 2024 Select Sale

On July 9th, the second day of the "Select Sale 2024" was held at Northern Horse Park in Tomakomai, Hokkaido.

This day featured the session for weanlings, with 239 youngsters up for auction and 231 successfully sold. The total sales reached JPY 14.421 billion (all amounts are tax-exclusive), which is 97.6% of last year's JPY 14.78 billion. The clearance rate was 96.7%, and the average price per horse was JPY 62.43 million.

Combined with the yearling session from the previous day, the total sales for the two-day event reached JPY 28.918 billion, an approximately 2.7% increase from the previous record of JPY 28.145 billion set in 2023.

Thirty-two horses sold for over JPY 100 million, with the highest price being JPY 410 million for "Serienholde 2024" (colt, by Kitasan Black). This colt is a half-brother to Schnell Meister, the 2021 G1 NHK Mile Cup winner, and was purchased by Toshihiko Tabata.

Three other horses sold for over JPY 300 million. "Carina Mia 2024" (colt, by Epiphaneia) was bought by Toshihiro Hirosaki Holdings Co., Ltd. for ?370 million. "Caledonia Road 2024" (colt, by Contrail) fetched JPY 300 million from Danox Co., Ltd., and "Armony's Angel 2024" (colt, by Gun Runner) also sold for ?300 million to Y's consignment sales.

Among buyers, Susumu Fujita purchased six horses totalling JPY 990 million. His highest purchase was "Brilliant Cut 2024" (colt, by Contrail) for JPY 250 million. Over the two days, he acquired a total of 11 horses for JPY 1.84 billion.

The progeny of Contrail were highly sought after, with 25 sold for a total of JPY 2.494 billion. The highest-priced Contrail offspring was "Caledonia Road 2024," sold for JPY 300 million.

The highest-priced filly was "Dream And Do 2024" (by Kitasan Black), which sold for JPY 200 million.
