Half-brother to Jpn1 winner Teorema sold for 100 million JPY on the first day of the Selection Sale

The "Selection Sale 2024", a Thoroughbred yearling auction,began on July 22nd at the Hokkaido Sales complex in Shin-Hidaka, Hokkaido. On the first day, 134 horses were listed, of which 127 were sold. The total gross was 3.266 billion yen (excluding tax), the clearance rate was 94.8%.

There were 20 horses sold for more than 40 million JPY. The session topper was knocked down at 100 million yen for '23 ex Stars Aligned by Kizuna. His half-sister is Teorema, winner of the 2021 JBC Ladies Classic. The winning bidder was Naohiro Sakaguchi, the amount is the second highest in the history of the Selection Sale.

The second highest lot of the session was '23 ex S Miracle by Firenze Fire at 84 million JPY. A son of a sprinter who won nine major prizes, including the U.S. G1 Champagne Stakes in 2017, this is his first crop. His granddam, Sambista, won six graded race, including the 2015 Champions Cup. The winning bidder was Masatsugu Takezono, known for his racing suffix name "TM".

The highest bid for a filly was 52 million yen for '23 ex Paddock Seattle by Kitasan Black. Her dam is an Argentinean-bred G2 and G3 winner in her native country. Hiroo Racing Co. was the successful bidder.

The selection sale will continue until the 24th, with a total of nearly 500 horses to be listed over the three days.
