Select Sale 2024 concludes with record total sales

The "Select Sale 2024" for yearling thoroughbreds concluded on the 24th at the Hokkaido Market in Shin Hidaka, Hokkaido, wrapping up the three-day auction. On the third day, 173 horses were put up for auction, with 128 of them being sold. The total sales amounted to 1.5741 billion yen (excluding tax), with a clearance rate of 73.0%.

The highest price on the third day was for "Sao Joao 2023" (colt, sire Le Vent Se Leve). His grandmother is Sambista, who won six graded stakes, including the 2015 G1 Champions Cup. He was purchased by Masatsugu Takezono, known for the "T M" prefix, for 52 million yen.

The highest-priced filly was "Gimmakuno Heroine 2023" (filly, sire Suave Richard). Her uncle is Absolute, who won the 2009 G3 Tokyo Shimbun Hai and the G2 Fuji Stakes. She was also purchased by Masatsugu Takezono for 31 million yen.

Over the three days, 484 horses were put up for auction, with 412 being sold. The total sales amounted to 7.1976 billion yen, with a clearance rate of 85.1%. Although the clearance rate was lower than last year, the total sales amount exceeded last year's, setting a new record (last year's event was held over two days). The highest price of the sale was on the first day for Stars Aligned 2023 (colt, sire Kizuna) at 100 million yen, marking the second-highest record in the sale's history.
