The G2 Tokyo Sports Hai Nisai Stakes, a renowned stepping stone for future stars, once again showcased its reputation as a launchpad for greatness. In the past decade alone, it has produced champions such as Wagnerian (2017), Contrail (2019), and Equinox (2021). This year's edition also lived up to expectations with a clash of promising two-year-olds.
Emerging victorious was the favourite Croix du Nord, who entered the race gaining an additional 24kg from his previous outing. While several competitors showed signs of immaturity during the race, Croix du Nord maintained composure, settling comfortably in a forward position. Turning into the stretch with ease, he took time to hit full stride after being asked for an effort mid-stretch. However, he eventually unleashed an impressive late kick, covering the final 3 furlongs in 33.3 seconds, to overtake the front-running Satono Shining just before the wire, securing his second win in as many starts and his first graded stakes title.
Jockey Yuichi Kitamura praised his mount, saying, "With the added weight, he leaned on the bit a bit more than usual. I didn't think he was 100% coming into this race, but despite that, he showed his strength and managed to win. I truly felt his potential, and I'm grateful for the effort he gave."
Satono Shining (3rd favourite) finished second, while Red Kingly (2nd favourite) settled for third. The winning time was 1:46.8.
