Kazuma Tomoto at Sapporo Racecourse
On August 18th, Kazuma Tomoto, a JRA employee and bronze medalist for Team Japan in the equine eventing competition at the Paris Olympics, proudly displayed his medal to fans in the winner's circle after the final race at Sapporo races. Earlier in the day, Tomoto rode the lead horse in Races 9 through 11, with the medal draped around his neck. For Race 10, he wore the uniform he used in the cross-country event, and for Race 11, he donned the outfit from the show jumping competition.
Reflecting on his achievement, Tomoto said, "I've received congratulations from so many people, and it's starting to sink in that we really won a medal. I'll be returning to the UK, where I'm based, in September. Given the lack of training facilities and international-level competitions in Japan, it will be challenging to aim for the next Olympics in Los Angeles realistically. However, I still have the desire to pursue that goal."
